Two 3-day workshops focussing on South Asian and Arabic scripts combine lecture segments and practical exercises with a unique opportunity to handle rare primary sources from the collections of the Museum Plantin-Moretus and the Non-Latin Type Collection, University of Reading.
This workshop is designed to enable participants to develop an informed analytical view of multi-script types and their use in multi-lingual publications for print and screen.
Following on from tailored lettering and design exercises, practical application will range from letterpress printing to working with current word-processing and graphic design software.
Who can attend?
Whether you are a typeface designer, graphic designer, book designer, information designer, logo designer, webdesigner, application designer, videogame designer, letterer, calligrapher, printer, bibliophile, publisher, editor, librarian, or just fascinated with typefaces, all are welcome to attend the workshops, and do not need to have previous knowledge of these scripts or languages.
You can either start fresh or even bring a project that you are currently working on and needs further attention.
What can you expect?
The intensive workshops are a full hands-on experience, and include:
• writing and lettering exercises
• printing practices
• access to unique primary sources from the archives of the Museum Plantin-Moretus and from the Non-Latin Typeface Collection of the University of Reading
• digitisation of the characters
• application and implementation of typefaces in wordprocessing software

• group discussions
In addition, specific indepth lectures will enrich and contextualise the analysis of the typographic praxis.
